• Managing a caseload of customers who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.
• Carrying out homelessness assessments in line with Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
• Completing and reviewing Personalised Housing Plans (PHPs) and agreeing reasonable steps with customers.
• Making decisions around eligibility, priority need, intentional homelessness and local connection.
• Producing legally robust homelessness decisions and Section 184 decision letters.
• Taking a proactive approach to homelessness prevention and identifying appropriate housing solutions.
• Negotiating with landlords, letting agents and family members to prevent homelessness wherever possible.
• Providing advice on private rented accommodation, social housing, supported housing and temporary accommodation.
• Supporting customers with rent arrears, affordability issues and access to financial assistance where appropriate.
• Working closely with Temporary Accommodation, Allocations, Social Care and other internal services.
• Liaising with landlords, Registered Providers, support agencies and other external partners.
• Identifying safeguarding concerns and making appropriate referrals.
• Maintaining accurate case records and ensuring cases are progressed within statutory timescales.

• Previous experience working as a Housing Options Officer, Homelessness Officer or Housing Needs Officer within a Local Authority.
• Strong knowledge of Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
• Experience managing homelessness cases through prevention and relief duties.
• Experience completing homelessness assessments and Personalised Housing Plans.
• Experience making statutory homelessness decisions and producing Section 184 decision letters.
• Good understanding of eligibility, priority need, intentional homelessness and local connection.
• Strong interviewing, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working with vulnerable customers and complex homelessness cases.
• Ability to manage a busy caseload and meet statutory deadlines.
• Experience using systems such as Jigsaw, Locata, NEC, Northgate or similar would be advantageous.
