A public sector organisation is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor for an initial 6-month, full-time temporary contract. Based in London with hybrid working, the role offers £550 per day, inside IR35. You will support a portfolio of housing, property and capital investment projects, providing professional quantity surveying and commercial management services.
What the job will be doing?
You will manage costs and commercial activity across capital, refurbishment, maintenance and housing projects. Responsibilities will include preparing estimates, cost plans, budgets and forecasts; monitoring expenditure; assessing contractor payment applications; managing variations, compensation events, claims and commercial risks; and negotiating final accounts. You will also support procurement and tender evaluations, prepare pricing documentation, monitor contractor performance and provide advice on value engineering and cost-saving opportunities. The role involves working closely with project, surveying and asset management teams while maintaining accurate records, audit trails and commercial reports.
What you will need?
You will need significant Quantity Surveyor experience within construction, housing, property or capital projects, together with strong expertise in cost management and commercial control. Essential experience includes preparing cost plans, estimates, valuations and final accounts; assessing contractor payments; managing variations, claims and commercial risks; and supporting procurement and tender evaluations. You must have strong knowledge of construction contracts, particularly JCT and/or NEC, and hold a degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management or a related discipline. Experience in the public sector, housing refurbishment, planned maintenance, major works or capital investment programmes is desirable. RICS membership, or progress towards professional membership, is also desirable.
