Marks Consulting Partners are currently looking for a Section 202 Reviews Officer to work with one of our Local Authority clients in London.
What the job will be doing?
- Conducting statutory homelessness reviews under Section 202 of the Housing Act 1996
- Reviewing homelessness decisions including eligibility, priority need, intentional homelessness, local connection and suitability of temporary accommodation
- Analysing complex case files and assessing all available evidence to ensure legally compliant decision making
- Producing detailed and legally robust Section 202 review decision letters
- Ensuring reviews are completed within statutory deadlines and in line with legislation and guidance
- Considering representations from applicants, solicitors, advocates and support agencies
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of homelessness legislation, case law and best practice
- Liaising with Housing Needs, Temporary Accommodation and Legal teams where required
- Supporting the reduction of legal challenge and judicial review risk through accurate and compliant decisions
- Maintaining accurate case records and updating housing management systems
- Attending meetings, case reviews and training sessions as required
What you will need?
- Extensive experience working within a Local Authority Housing Needs or Homelessness service
- Strong working knowledge of Housing Act 1996 Part VII and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017
- Experience producing legally compliant Section 184 and Section 202 decisions
- Excellent understanding of homelessness legislation, Code of Guidance and relevant case law
- Experience managing complex homelessness cases within a fast-paced environment
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to draft detailed decision letters
- Ability to work independently and manage a high-volume caseload
- Experience using housing systems such as Locata, Jigsaw, NEC or similar desirable
- Experience responding to legal challenges and pre-action protocol letters desirable
